Mother’s day can be an emotional experience. While we all have a mother, the relationships with these women greatly vary. Today we gathered together to celebrate the nurturing spirit of our mothers in light of the parenting aspects of God as a metaphorical mother bear, eagle, a woman in labor, the queen of heaven, and el shaddai.
Patriarchal language of a father God permeates the religious upbringing that many of us share. However, as our guest speaker Christy Correl-Hughes pointed out, that is not necessarily reflective of our own religious experiences. For Mrs. Correl-Hughes, the Goddess was embodied in the faiths of her great-grandmother, her grandmother, and her mother. These strong, capable women influenced her to make her the person that she is today.
The matriarchs of her family taught her about simple, real, and authentic faith that comes from the despair of life, helping one to move past grief. They embodied hospitality and unconditional love and modeled unwavering determination in their belief; giving her hints as to who and what God in God’s entirety is. While all of our faiths look different from what our mothers may have taught us long ago, we still have the gift to be authentic in our faiths, radically welcoming and loving, and determined to recognize the motherhood of God and the divine feminine inside of us saying: “I love you this much times infinity!” ILYTMX∞, Michael Peter Sarracino |

Sundays at 5pm. Come as you are. All are welcome.
We value highly the metaphor of journey. We’re different people from different places and backgrounds, representing an intergenerational community, and we’ve traveled different paths. So, we agree not to make assumptions about the person across from us, next to us, or in conversation with us. We challenge ourselves to be sensitive, knowing this community includes a diverse group of people from life-long followers of Jesus, to people who are just now open to the idea that God might exist. We strive to avoid offense, ask good questions, articulate and explain our responses. We don’t assume fluency in bible, spirituality, or Church language, because we believe the message of Jesus is not for Christianity, but for humanity. So, we do everything in the spirit of love and grace.
