You may be new to the LGBTQ+ community, or new to the idea of being an Ally. Collective Cares meets every Tuesday from 5-7pm, creating a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community and their allies in Volusia County. Come be supportive, be a friend, make a friend and make a diference.
We begin with an informal hour of community center greeting and conversation, sharing resources and catching up. Then we move into one of two processing groups.
OPEN PROCESSING GROUP: [Weekly]
Join Collective Cares' open processing group for topical learning and discussion surrounding themes, like transgender education and support, the role of religion in LGBTQ+ progress and changing portrayals of the LGBTQ+ community in popular culture. Tuesdays, 6-7PM at Collective. Everyone is invited a week at a time, no need for ongoing committment. For more information, or with questions, please contact Amy Filson.
CLOSED PROCESSING GROUP: [Biannually]
Join Collective Cares' closed processing group, led by Metal Health Counselor in training, Louise Rigdon. As a closed group, when the group does meet several times per year, it requires a committement up front to meet each week for 8-10 weeks. The group is focused on shame resiliance specifically for the LGBTQ+ community and their allies. Based on the work of renowned speaker and researcher, Brene Brown, Louise leads through the process of recognizing and developing resiliance for the shame we experience in our lives. For more information about the next run of the group, with questions, or to sign up, please contact Louise.
Check out the video below for a teaser of Brene's work and Louise's closed Processing Group inspiration.
We are a misfit faith community that gathers in DeLand on Sundays at 5pm. Come as you are.
We value highly the metaphor of journey. We’re different people from different places and backgrounds, representing an intergenerational community, and we’ve traveled different paths. So, we agree not to make assumptions about the person across from us, next to us, or in conversation with us. We challenge ourselves to be sensitive, knowing this community includes a diverse group of people from life-long followers of Jesus, to people who are just now open to the idea that God might exist. We strive to avoid offense, ask good questions, articulate and explain our responses. We don’t assume fluency in bible, spirituality, or Church language, because we believe the message of Jesus is not for Christianity, but for humanity. So, we do everything in the spirit of love and grace.
