Ian Campbell grew up in DeLand and graduated from Stetson University in May of 2014 with a major in Digital Arts and minors in Art History and Spanish. For the last year he has been living and working various jobs and freelance opportunities in Orlando, and since the start of this Spring has been making the weekly commute to DeLand to run sound and online streaming for the Sunday gatherings at Collective.
He became involved with Collective back when it was still called Canvas, eager to be involved in an intentional community focused around asking questions without the need of answers. He was an intern a few summers back with Canvas before the transition into Collective, and he stayed around as a “regular”, enjoying the same intentional community but with more faces and more voices to add to the conversation.
After Divinity School his plans are either to lead a faith community of his own or to continue education in order to teach Religious Studies in a university.
Ian enjoys drinking coffee, fresh air, Star Wars, modern art, and having a conversation about any and all of those things.
We are a misfit faith community that gathers in DeLand on Sundays at 5pm. Come as you are.
We value highly the metaphor of journey. We’re different people from different places and backgrounds, representing an intergenerational community, and we’ve traveled different paths. So, we agree not to make assumptions about the person across from us, next to us, or in conversation with us. We challenge ourselves to be sensitive, knowing this community includes a diverse group of people from life-long followers of Jesus, to people who are just now open to the idea that God might exist. We strive to avoid offense, ask good questions, articulate and explain our responses. We don’t assume fluency in bible, spirituality, or Church language, because we believe the message of Jesus is not for Christianity, but for humanity. So, we do everything in the spirit of love and grace.
