Katie Holmes is a newer member of the DeLand community, moving here almost four years ago from Atlanta to attend Stetson University. She is a junior at Stetson majoring in Religious Studies and minoring in French and Economics. She also volunteers around DeLand and works at Persimmon Hollow on the canning line. Katie is very excited to be the new marketing intern for Collective as well.
She started attending Collective right after the transition from Canvas to Collective when she was invited by a group of Stetson students. She immediately connected with the ideas of open dialogue and an intentional faith community and is very excited to become more involved with Collective by learning the ins and outs of what goes in to the community she enjoys so much.
Katie enjoys hammocks, art, dancing, and eating all sorts of sweet foods! She hopes after graduation to find a job that will allow her to travel and learn more about people, their beliefs, and their food.
We are a misfit faith community that gathers in DeLand on Sundays at 5pm. Come as you are.
We value highly the metaphor of journey. We’re different people from different places and backgrounds, representing an intergenerational community, and we’ve traveled different paths. So, we agree not to make assumptions about the person across from us, next to us, or in conversation with us. We challenge ourselves to be sensitive, knowing this community includes a diverse group of people from life-long followers of Jesus, to people who are just now open to the idea that God might exist. We strive to avoid offense, ask good questions, articulate and explain our responses. We don’t assume fluency in bible, spirituality, or Church language, because we believe the message of Jesus is not for Christianity, but for humanity. So, we do everything in the spirit of love and grace.
