This week we begin our water emphasis month, connecting water and spirituality, elevating our awareness of the water crisis in the world, and preparing to raise funds to drill wells in the most water-impoverished places on the planet. We'll begin this week by surveying the world's faith traditions, and finding the imagery and reality of water as the uniting essence. We are one in our composition of and dependence upon water. If water is life, then it must speak to more than our biology. It must speak to our soul.
As we involve ourselves in purposeful discussions revolving around the worldwide water crisis, the power of clean drinking water, and its spiritual connection to our well-being, we also recognize the ability that we have to take action. We will take the time to consider the importance that clean water holds on a daily basis in our lives. How frequently do we indulge in a glass of water? How often do bathe in crystal clear warm water and overlook the opportunity that we have been given?
Individuals around the world are struggling to find a source that will not taint their health, or sicken their loved ones. In response to this worldwide crisis, Collective would like to invite the community to raise their glasses and support Wine to Water. This non-profit organization not only distributes the products essential for clean drinking water, but also assists individuals in the community in utilizing their own materials, and sustaining this source for years to come.
Collective will be holding their annual Wine to Water fundraising event on May 31st at 5:00PM in the Collective building. This event will involve a palatable wine tasting and pairing, guided by Wine to Water representatives. The Rivertown Cafe of downtown DeLand will be developing a mouthwatering pairing menu, that will include fresh ingredients and four courses to match our two white wines, and two red wines. We will be posting the full menu of pairings in the upcoming weeks on the Facebook event page.
Ticket prices for this event are $10.00 per person, and we require that you are of age in order to participate. If you are interested in partaking in our annual Wine to Water event, please feel free to purchase your event tickets at wearecollectivechurch.com. For those of you that are interested in educating yourselves further on this non-profit organization, please visit Wine to Water. Join us this Sunday and each Sunday in the month of May to discuss the spiritual relevance of water and its incredible impact.
We are a misfit faith community that gathers in DeLand on Sundays at 5pm. Come as you are.
We value highly the metaphor of journey. We’re different people from different places and backgrounds, representing an intergenerational community, and we’ve traveled different paths. So, we agree not to make assumptions about the person across from us, next to us, or in conversation with us. We challenge ourselves to be sensitive, knowing this community includes a diverse group of people from life-long followers of Jesus, to people who are just now open to the idea that God might exist. We strive to avoid offense, ask good questions, articulate and explain our responses. We don’t assume fluency in bible, spirituality, or Church language, because we believe the message of Jesus is not for Christianity, but for humanity. So, we do everything in the spirit of love and grace.
