Knowledge & News
Thought provoking topics and series, necessary news and information.
If you missed last night at Collective, or just want to refresh, reflect and join the conversation, the full service Live-Cast and edited Podcast are here for you. We hope they'll stimulate more than our individual thought and reflection, and will draw us more deeply into the conversation of the community.
As I sat and listened to the sermon this week, the idea of wisdom for the ages came to mind as we took another introspective journey into the depths of our community statement. Being in the room as the children shared their perspectives in response to the discussion on love, was one of the most moving experiences I have had in a while and I was excited in what their presence and energy evoked from those of us who gathered therein. The children in this space were the wisdom keepers rather than being relegated to being told what to think or do. The sermon was filled with several thought provoking themes, yet the most profound among them was the idea that: “Intergenerational means all generations are present and honored, and that structures and programs facilitate interaction between generations”. In other words, it is not enough to be collocated in the same facility, there has to be opportunity for establishing value an honor through shared experience.
Woven into our identity as community and as a people are the very things that we hold true. The fact that we read the community statement each week brings about a renewal of mind, spirit and soul as we speak new life into that which we dare to claim as sacred. We are a spectrum of ages indeed as this is how we live, love and grow. Those who were here in the beginning remember where we have come from, those of us here today are blessed to experience this unconditional belonging as we build upon this common ground something beautifully blessed and the likes of which the world has never seen. Intergenerational – this is how we do it and this is who we are. We are Collective.
We are a misfit faith community that gathers in DeLand on Sundays at 5pm. Come as you are.
We value highly the metaphor of journey. We’re different people from different places and backgrounds, representing an intergenerational community, and we’ve traveled different paths. So, we agree not to make assumptions about the person across from us, next to us, or in conversation with us. We challenge ourselves to be sensitive, knowing this community includes a diverse group of people from life-long followers of Jesus, to people who are just now open to the idea that God might exist. We strive to avoid offense, ask good questions, articulate and explain our responses. We don’t assume fluency in bible, spirituality, or Church language, because we believe the message of Jesus is not for Christianity, but for humanity. So, we do everything in the spirit of love and grace.
