Knowledge & News
Thought provoking topics and series, necessary news and information.
This week we brought together our month-long focus on water, the theme of birth (in honor of mother's day), and the tension in the relationship between the practice we control, and the elements of the spiritual experience we can't control. We engaged the three births through the inspiration and challenge of our liturgy - exciting new music, words and silence, readings, Baptism, Eucharist and more.
If you take the time to enjoy the video [above] of the whole service, you'll appreciate and be especially grateful with us for the amazing music - thanks to Robbie for overseeing the whole deal, Joe and Stacy, Sydney for the pertinent Mother's Day tune, and Turner for sitting in on bass. What an amazing privilege to experience this diverse and talented house band weekly. And thanks to the Collective house choir (everyone else), who filled out the beautiful "Down To The River To Pray" during the Eucharist.
We're thankful also for all of those in so many places on the continuum of motherhood, for the extended families able to join us for Huck's baptism, and to Andy for helping lead the family and congregation in recognizing the unconditional belonging and love, into which Huck was initiated in baptism. STARKE ELEMENTARY
This week received the following thank you from Mrs. Chatman's class, which we shared in the service:
I would like to send your church a heartfelt thank you!!! And a BIG thanks for the books you are sending my way!!! If you and some of your church families have any little toys that their children don’t play with any more, teachers could use them for our treasure baskets!!! You know, like little toy cars/trucks, stick figures, small dolls, costume jewelry, action figures, etc… Again, words cannot begin to say how much this means to our children here at Starke and to me… I have been here 12 years and this is one of the kindest things that has ever been done for the children in my classroom!!! |

Come as you are. Sundays at 5pm
We value highly the metaphor of journey. We’re different people from different places and backgrounds, representing an intergenerational community, and we’ve traveled different paths. So, we agree not to make assumptions about the person across from us, next to us, or in conversation with us. We challenge ourselves to be sensitive, knowing this community includes a diverse group of people from life-long followers of Jesus, to people who are just now open to the idea that God might exist. We strive to avoid offense, ask good questions, articulate and explain our responses. We don’t assume fluency in bible, spirituality, or Church language, because we believe the message of Jesus is not for Christianity, but for humanity. So, we do everything in the spirit of love and grace.
