Wine to Water is our way of supporting and acknowledging the worldwide water crisis. Wine to Water is a non-profit organization aiming to assist those in water crisis areas around the world, by drilling wells, and distributing necessary water filters. This organization not only distributes the products essential for clean drinking water, but also assists individuals in the community in utilizing their own products and materials, to sustain a clean source for years to come.
We held our annual Wine to Water fundraising event on May 31st at 5:00PM in the Collective building. This event involved a palatable wine tasting and pairing, guided by Wine to Water representatives. The Rivertown Cafe of downtown DeLand developed a mouthwatering pairing menu, that included fresh ingredients and four courses to match our two white wines, and two red wines.
With the room full to capacity, we hosted our annual Wine to Water event on Sunday.
Throughout the evening, we tasted four delightful wines, with delicious dishes from The Rivertown Cafe to match. These included Fried Avocado Tacos, and Kentucky Chocolate Pecan Pie. In between courses, we discussed facts about the water shortage, participated in three round of water and wine related trivia, and raffled off a variety of exciting prizes from local sponsors.
We are so grateful to have been able to share this experience with so many friends and community members, and excited to see what Wine to Water will be doing with the funds that we have raised together.
We are a misfit faith community that gathers in DeLand on Sundays at 5pm. Come as you are.
We value highly the metaphor of journey. We’re different people from different places and backgrounds, representing an intergenerational community, and we’ve traveled different paths. So, we agree not to make assumptions about the person across from us, next to us, or in conversation with us. We challenge ourselves to be sensitive, knowing this community includes a diverse group of people from life-long followers of Jesus, to people who are just now open to the idea that God might exist. We strive to avoid offense, ask good questions, articulate and explain our responses. We don’t assume fluency in bible, spirituality, or Church language, because we believe the message of Jesus is not for Christianity, but for humanity. So, we do everything in the spirit of love and grace.
